Pilots strike strands Antigua-bound passengers at Dominican airport

Santo Domingo.- Dozens of passengers were left stranded at Las Americas Airport Wednesday when Liat Airlines pilots staged a walkout which cancelled flight 501 bound for Antigua.

The airline’s regular Antigua-Dominican Republic flights transport hundreds of Dominicans and foreign passengers weekly.

Civil Aviation Board (JAC) president Luis Rodríguez instructed that the stranded travelers be taken to a hotel, after Liat canceled a flight scheduled to depart from the Las Americas terminal12:40pm Tuesday.

Liat pilots have been on strike For several days to demand better wages and other benefits.

The JAC said the travelers will be lodged until they can board a flight to their destination. It said its inspectors went sent to Las Americas to assist the travelers left stranded by the airline.
