Prosecutor calls alleged bribe to buy Brazilian planes ‘serious’

Santo Domingo.- Justice Ministry Anti-corruption prosecutor Laura Guerrero on Monday called the alleged bribes to a Dominican official to buy eight Brazilian Super Tucano aircraft “serious.”

She said various sources have informed her Department of possible overvaluation or bribes in the case of the intercept aircraft, for which in her view the sum involved is high.

The official noted however s that the Office of the Prosecutor will verify the actual sum in the course of the investigation.

Also on Monday, Defense minister Sigfrido Pared affirmed that it’s now up to the judicial authorities to open an investigation into the alleged bribe, in which the Wall Street Journal named an Air Force colonel as the person who received the bribe, of US$3.4 million.
