The country’s Catholic Church greets the Vatican’s new envoy

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s Catholic Church on Monday greeted the Vatican’s new envoy Jude Thaddeus Okolo, as Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodríguez stated his satisfaction, calling it a momentous occasion for the country.

"The Dominican Conference of Bishops celebrates a unique date…and welcomes the former Archbishop of Novica, based in the former Mauritania province," Lopez said.

Bishops, priests and deacons from dioceses across the country, as well as diplomats attended the ceremony held in the First Cathedral of the Americas.

In the homily the Cardinal said Okolo’s predecessors "have always had a space in the country’s churches to celebrate with God and the people who pilgrimage in the Dominican Republic."

The new envy said he came to the country with the Holy Father’s affection and warm greetings. "It was on October 7 this year when the Holy Father appointed me as his representative in this dear country, a country that enjoys his paternal affection and you all know it. The Pope told me directly to greet his beloved Dominican people."
