Violence rate down 40%, Police say

Santo Domingo.– National Police deputy chief general AlejandroDipre Sierra said that in fifteen sectors of the country with thehighest violence rates, criminal and violent incidents have been reduced by40%.

Dipre also said that over 1,000 drug-selling points have been eradicated in the country in the last five months. The officer, who was interviewed yesterday by Santo Domingo TV’s "Esferas de Poder," pointed out thatthose sectors were taken as parameters because they registered the highest violence rates.

"The reduction is over forty per cent, and that has allowed us to take these parameters for action in other sectors," he explained.
