US deports 2,462 Dominicans in 2013 fiscal year

Santo Domingo.– U.S. Immigration and CustomsEnforcement (ICE) deported 368,644 immigrants during the 2013 fiscal year, of whom2,462 are Dominican Republic nationals, according to the agency’s year-endremoval numbers.

ICE officials report that 235,093 ofthose removed were apprehended at the border, and 133,551 people wereapprehended in the interior of the U.S.

The immigration agency said Mexicocontinues to be the leading country of origin for those removed, 241,493. The figuresfor Guatemala show 47,769 deportees; Honduras 37,049; El Salvador 21,602;Ecuador 1,616; Brazil 1,500; Colombia 1,429; and Nicaragua 1,383.

ICE said 98 percent of the agency’stotal removals were convicted criminals, recent border crossers, illegalre-entrants or those previously removed in line with the agency’s enforcementpriorities.
