Feisty senator calls exotic beach titleholders, scammers and freeloaders

Santo Domingo.- Ruling party senator Wilton Guerrero on Tuesday said president Danilo Medina was surprised by people close to the deal reached with the people with titles claiming ownership of 72 parcels in Bahia de las Aguilas, southwestern Pedernales, and asked him to think about the moral damage if society rewards "scammers" and is an incentive to immorality.

"I hope the President when he lays his head on his pillow God will enlighten his path that what the advisers recommended isn’t correct," he said, but defended Medina’s honesty, calling him a close friend, "but in this case he was caught in good faith, because there are sheep and wolves in governments."

"We must be firmly opposed against this agreement for the sake of society’s moral health."

Guerrero, who was head of the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) and filed the charges against the "usurpers" of titles in Bahia de las Aguilas, said the scam’s masterminds "should be locked up and throw away the key."

Guerrero called the titleholders a "bunch of freeloaders."

Interviewed by Huchi Lora and Patricia Solano on Channel 11, Guerrero showed documents with the names of the people who were assigned as many as nine parcels of State-owned lands in Bahia de las Aguilas, Santiago and Cabarete, Puerto Plata in 1995, and called “masterminds” the people whose names figure among those who "bought" the lands afterwards.
