Judges “guild” slams Justice Minister’s criticism of ruling

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s judges grouped in Asojurd on Wednesday asked Justice minister Francisco Dominguez to retract his statements against the judge who ruled to discard the criminal trial in the Bahia de las Aguilas land fraud case, a decision he called "disastrous and shameful."

Asojurd president Yuderka Villanueva, accompanied by several members, said Dominguez’s criticism against that court was "strange and surprising."

On Tuesday a National District panel court presiding judge ruled that the proceeding against Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) former director Jaime Rodriguez Guzman, his brother Rafael, and his wife Margarita, had expired, because there was no definitive court ruling in the case.

The protest letter

The Association of judges sent a letter to the Dept. of Prosecutions, advising of an "opportunity to rectify its position, as we find it strange and surprising."
