Medina salutes the military on Armed Forces Day

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Monday saluted the officers and enlistees of the country’s military branches, to mark Armed Forces Day in honor of Independence hero Matias Ramon Mella.

Medina said the duty of the men and women of the armed forces is the Constitution’s mandate to safeguard the homeland every day, "contributing to the greatest dedication of the keeping of peace and security, becoming deserving of our respect."

The head of state stressed that Armed Forces Day coincides with the 197th anniversary of Mella’s birth, one of the founders of the Nation, who in his view should be remembered with reverence.

In a statement published on the Presidency website, Medina urged the military to continue to uphold the institutional standard and the ideals which gave birth to freedom and national sovereignty.
