Major opposition party takes its crisis to a grave

Santo Domingo. – The internal crisis in Dominican Republic’s major opposition party (PRD) made headlines again Wednesday, when the main groups vying for its control have different activities planned to mark the s76th anniversary of the birth of its late leader Jose Francisco Peña Gomez.

PRD president Miguel Vargas laid a wreath at Peña’s tomb, where he affirmed that the organization’s late leader is reborn every day lives in the heart of all Dominicans.

After the first activity to commemorate Peña, Vargas went to PRD headquarters with a group of leaders of the Social Democratic Women’s Federation, to lay another wreath at Peña’s bust.

But Hipolito Mejia, ex president and Vargas’ rival within the PRD, also headed a ceremony with the party’s women, to mark International Women’s Day and announced he will visit the grave at 11am.
