Public Health bans swimming in all rivers

SANTO DOMINGO. – The Public Health Ministry on Wednesday implemented several measures to lower the risk of people contracting cholera, during next weekend’s the Our Lady de la Altagracia Day celebrations, including a ban on swimming in the rivers.

It also implemented the logistics to guarantee the sanitary measures with emergency mobile medical assistance facilities near Higüey’s Basilica (east), the destination of thousands of the faithful.

Public Health also warned against the pilgrimage’s traditional baptisms and bathing in rivers and streams of La Altagracia province, and instead urges them to use the portable and fixed toilets. It also recommends avoiding doing physiological needs in open fields and to consume foods well-cooked and to drink potable water.

It also asks the population not to self-medicate for diarrhea and go immediately to the mobile clinics for immediate treatment. It also asks people with multiple cases of diarrhea to immediately contact health personnel.
