Four university students jailed in Police colonel’s death

Santo Domingo.- A National District judge on Monday remanded two students to prison charged with the shooting death of Police colonel Julian Suarez and wounding two others during violent protests at the Santo Domingo State University (UASD), when a group of masked men fired homemade guns Tuesday of last week.

Héctor Eduardo Pichardo and Eddy Bonilla are also being held in connection with the case.

Permanent Attention judge Jose A. Vargas sent Wilson Javier Nicasio and Diogenes Isidro Gutiérrez to three months La Victoria prison to await trial, as prosecutors requested.

The judge’s ruling was based on the testimony of witnesses Pamela Geronimo and Jose Benzan, who identified the accused as armed during the incident.

The defense team headed Elias Nicasio Javier had asked the court to reject the request for incarceration.
