Tweets: Fishermen save humpback whale

Sanchez, Dominican Republic.- Dozens of onlookers gathered at the shore in Sánchez township, northeastern Samaná province to observe a beached humpback whale, reportedly rescued by local fishermen.

Twitter traffic was frenzied as the authorities were contacted to prevent the whale’s death, by helping it to return to deeper water.

According to a @ WilRafD tweet, local fishermen managed to drag the whale to open water.

Each year humpback whales arrive in the warm waters around Samana to mate and birth calves.
