Snagged: Bikers driving on elevated highway

Santo Domingo.- Metropolitan Transit Authority (Amet) agents on Tuesday confiscated dozens of motorcycles whose drivers were caught using the 27 de Febrero elevated highway, parked in prohibited places, without documents and some without a helmet.

Several Amet patrols were placed near the busy intersection of Duarte and Paris streets, at the highway’s traffic merge and exit lanes, a measure Amet agents also conducted in other parts of greater Santo Domingo.

It a statement, Amet spokesman Roberto Lebron said motorcyclists need understand that they must respect the rules of road behavior and dignity.

"Amet will not allow further endangerment of pedestrians’ lives and the motorcycles’ occupants themselves, it’s not possible for them to drive on the streets without any control. They have to submit to the rule of law,” he said, adding that the bikes were taken to the Dog Track, 14 kilometers north of the capital.
