Downpours herald hurricane season

Santo Domingo.- The national weather office (Onamet) on Friday forecast scattered showers mostly in the afternoon and early evening hours for the Northeast, Southeast, Central Mountains and border area, from the humidity and cloudiness dragged by a trough northwest of the island and the prevailing east wind.

It said rainfall will continue during the weekend over the territory during the afternoon and early evening hours, in the Northeast, Southwest and Central Mountains.

Onamet continues to issue advisories on overflowing rivers and mudslides for of Monseñor Noël, La Vega, Greater Santo Domingo, Monte Plata, Sanchez Ramirez, San Pedro, Duarte and Hato Mayor provinces.

Onamet also noted that the Atlantic hurricane season starts tomorrow Saturday, June 1.
