Top official flips on holiday booze ban

Santo Domingo.- Interior and Police minister Jose Ramon Fadul on Tuesday said schedules for bars, discos and restaurants will not be restricted from December 20 to January 8, a reversal of the measure announced two weeks ago.

He said it was agreed that those businesses can remain open without limits to take advantage of the holidays, affirming that the measure also benefits musicians and bands which are generally more in demand this time of the year. “There has been no other interest than that of compliance with the law and to guarantee the right to wholesome entertainment and within what’s permitted, so that these agreements allow the citizens to celebrate these Christmas times without excesses of any type in this manner.”

In a statement the official however said there’ll be more patrols Police for those businesses to prevent threats against citizen security and order. “We’ve assumed these facilities together and every one has the commitment of guaranteeing the right to amusement with order, security and total guarantee for human life.”
