Prestigious entity urges Medina to intervene National Police

Santo Domingo.- The vice president of one of the country’s most prestigious non profit organizations on Wednesday urged president Danilo Medina to intervene National Police, noting that the botched raid which claimed the life of a German national in Puerto Plata is proof enough that “that institution has collapsed.”

Institutionalism and Justice Foundation (Finjus) spokesman Servio Tulio Castaños said the incident in Puerto Plata reflects the situation which in his view the National Police has been going through, “because here from the media and from civil society practices like that were being denounced."

He stressed that "this institution collapsed, " noting that in fact society feels insecure and frightened with the “law enforcement agency we have.”

Fight against corruption

Castaños called the government’s fight against corruption the Achilles heel of Medina’s Administration. "Society perceives that there hasn’t been enough will to fight corruption, and that’s serious. Nation-building cannot be based on impunity."
