Local man wanted in five slayings flown to Panama

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Fermín Taveras Ramirez, extradited yesterday to Panama where he’s charged with killing five Chinese-Panamanians, managed to get a new ID card, a development which is under investigation.

Taveras, 41, hid from police pursuit by surgically changing his face and fingerprints, with photos of the scars revealed Monday night. The fake ID was in the name of Ceferino Herrera Ceballos, 37.

Taveras, arrested in Boca Chica Thursday and handed over to Panama Police officials who arrived Saturday, was escorted aboard Copa Airlines flight 271, which took off at 6:35pm from Las Americas Airport.
