U.S., Dominican military announce ‘joint humanitarian exercise’

Barahona, Dominican Republic. – U.S. and Dominican military will take part in the joint humanitarian exercise "Beyond the Horizon" in Barahona, Dominican Republic southwest, according to outlets diariolibre.com and ecosdelsur.net.

The Puerto Rican National Guard’s 1-111 General Aviation Support Battalion will deploy UH-60L Blackhawk helicopters ??for several flights at Barahona Province from August 20 to 23, the reports say.

The exercise’s flights aim to identify, target and surmount the various challenges that may arise at the sites where medics and engineers plan to accomplish their tasks. “The helicopter will also be used to transport passengers and cargo as well as for emergency evacuations.

The Armed Forces Ministry jointly with the Education and Health ministries and American medical professionals began preparing for the mission, “which will provide general and specialized medical services for free, as well as engineering projects built for residents of Barahona Province, from March to June, 2014.
