Embattled ex President gets support from within

Santiago, Dominican Republic.-The rank and file of the ruling PLD party from the province’s nine towns gathered in Columbus Park, where they signed a document of support for ex president Leonel Fernandez, who’s been the target of protests and marchers in recent days.

The PLD protesters waved banners and chanted slogans rejecting allegations that Fernandez is to blame for the RD$187.0 billion fiscal deficit, the biggest in the country’s history, and warn they’ll defend the former President at any level.

The document was signed by former officials of Fernandez’s Administration, mayors, media executives and union leaders linked to the PLD, who blasted opposition sectors for allegedly being behind the smear campaign.

"Leonel, you’re loved, the town’s alongside you," "We won’t let go it alone" and "Were with you" were some of the chants voiced by Fernandez’s backers.
