Flash flood, mudslide alerts as downpours pound the east

Santo Domingo.- The latest downpours have prompted Emergency Operations Center (COE) flash flooding and mudslide alerts from a trough passing over the country.

The COE yesterday said 10 eastern provinces are under alert as the relentless downpours could cause rivers to crest their banks.

It said the alerts were issued when a tropical wave moving west over the eastern part of the country interacted with the trough.

Alerts were issued for Monte Plata, Santo Domingo, Samana, San Pedro, La Romana, Duarte, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, El Seibo, Hato Mayor and La Altagracia provinces.

Thursday night’s flooding of Greater Santo Domingo’s streets kept people at home watching the downpours.
