Abinader assures that the unemployment rate in young people between 18 and 30 years of age fell in 2022

In his accountability speech on Monday, February 27, President Luis Abinader highlighted that the open unemployment rate among young people fell in 2022, standing at 8.7%, the lowest percentage in the last seven years. The Head of State said that, of the total population employed in formal private jobs, 625,924 are young people between the ages of 18 and 30, and that this figure represents 38.12% of the total employed population. Said data establishes “a growth of 40% in relation to 2020 when this indicator stood at 447,913,” said the president.

In addition, Abinader said that only last year 89,000 new jobs were created, which are occupied by Dominican workers. He added that thanks to his administration’s youth employment policies, 33,927 of the 89,000 new jobs are occupied by young people between the ages of 18 and 30. By way of balance, he said that the new positions put his management with 403,000 more jobs than those found when he assumed the Presidency in August 2020.

“And with more than 125,000 formal jobs in the private sector than there were in February 2020, before the pandemic,” he highlighted.
