Public Works denies illegal contract with Odebrecht

Santo Domingo.- Public Works minister Gonzalo Castillo on Sunday denied assigning contracts to Brazilian giant Odebrecht without calls for tenders, for the construction of the Navarrete-Puerto Plata highway.

"This is completely false, that hasn’t happened, the Navarrete-Puerto Plata road was the responsibility of DOVICON, but two weeks ago that contract was canceled amicably," he said.

Quoted by diariolibre.com, the official said the call for tenders was announced in a meeting with Puerto Plata authorities last October. "With all the studies needed, we will open an international tender for the construction of four lanes of the highway."
