Hidalgo: without agencies, without an airline and without hotels in the Dominican Republic

The Globalia Group will barely have tourist representation in the Dominican Republic after parting with the Be Live hotel in the country. These become part of the giant Hyatt and will be operated by the most popular brand in its portfolio, Sunscape. The group chaired by Juan José Hidalgo has been getting rid of the agencies and tour operators in less than a year (they are now owned by Barceló); the airline Air Europa will pass to Iberia when the European authorities give the go-ahead; and the Be Live hotel will be in the hands of a fund and Hyatt.

The business conglomerate of the historic Dominican Hispanic businessman has been falling apart in just 6 months. In the DR, Hidalgo’s businesses will be limited only to real estate projects in Boca Chica, Puerto Plata, and Bayahibe. Globalia has been the Spanish tourism group with the highest income for years.

In the statement, Juan José Hidalgo stresses that the sale is due “to a successful strategy.”
