Squid case: MP does not oppose that two other defendants be varied in pretrial detention

Yajaira Brito Encarnación and Ramón David Hernández, who were linked to the Camalar case, have been granted house arrest by Judge Kenya Romero of the Permanent Court of the National District. The Public Ministry did not oppose this decision after the defense of both defendants requested the Court to impose house arrest, an impediment to exit, and periodic presentation while rejecting the request for preventive detention presented by the Public Ministry.

Wilson Camacho, the head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), and Yeni Berenice Reynoso, the deputy prosecutor and director of prosecution of the Public Ministry, requested the judge to change their initial approach of preventive detention to house arrest, an impediment to exit, and periodic presentation.

Dr. Gustavo Ortiz, the lawyer for both defendants, reported this development and clarified that the change in the Public Ministry’s stance did not mean that his clients had reached an agreement with the prosecuting body, as it was the Public Ministry who objectively requested the variation.
