Sun and heat: temperatures will reach up to 35 degrees this Tuesday

Santo Domingo.- The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) predicts a morning with sunny and hot temperatures in the Dominican Republic. However, during the afternoon, downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and isolated gusts of wind are expected in the northwest, north, northeast, central mountain range, Cibao Valley, and border areas due to the instability of a trough and the diurnal cycle. These activities are expected to continue until early night.

Onamet has recommended the general population stay hydrated, wear light-colored clothing, avoid exposing themselves to sunlight without proper protection, especially between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and protect young children and elderly or vulnerable people from the sun. High temperatures can lead to an increase in cases of viral diseases such as chickenpox in the country, according to the president of the Dominican Society of Dermatology.

The authorities continue to urge the rational use of water since the country is experiencing a period of seasonal drought that statistically ends in mid-April. In Greater Santo Domingo, the temperature will range from 33°C to 35°C, and the minimum will remain between 22°C and 24°C.
