JCE President meets with OAS commission; will collaborate in electoral processes

Santo Domingo.- The President of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzo, held a meeting on Tuesday with a commission from the Organization of American States (OAS). This meeting was part of their collaborative efforts outlined in the technical cooperation framework agreement signed between the two institutions. The purpose of this agreement is to establish mechanisms for collaboration in electoral matters, particularly in preparation for the upcoming electoral processes in the Dominican Republic next year.

The commission in attendance, consisting of specialists from the OAS Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation (DECO) including Ignacio Álvarez and Alejandro Bravo, consultant Héctor Hernández, and OAS Ambassador Araceli Azuara, engaged in fruitful discussions during the meeting held at President Jáquez’s office.

As part of their visit, the OAS representatives will have a series of engagements including a meeting with the JCE’s directors of Information Technology and Elections, Johny Rivera and Mario Núñez. This meeting will focus on the implementation plan for manual voting processes, manual scrutiny, digitization, scanning, and data transmission (EDET) for the 2023 and 2024 elections.

The OAS commission will also have the opportunity to observe a functional demonstration of the EDET system and visit the JCE Las Colinas warehouse.

It is important to note that the agreement signed on June 12 enables the JCE and OAS to establish cooperative mechanisms, share experiences, exchange bibliographic materials, and collaborate on work programs, among other areas of cooperation.
