Dominican delegation participates in a seminar on digital agriculture and rural development in China

China.- A delegation from the Dominican Republic, comprising representatives from the National Irrigation Technification (TNR) and the Ministry of Economy, Planning, and Development (MEPyD), participated in the seminar “Digital Agriculture, Rural Development, Poverty Reduction, and Revitalization Practices.” The seminar was sponsored by the Chinese Government through its Ministry of Commerce and the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO).

The Dominican delegation included Claudio Caamaño Vélez, the executive director of TNR; Erick Dorrejo, the director of Development Policies for the Border Area at MEPyD, and Bethania Vegazo, responsible for Monitoring Multilateral Cooperation at the same organization.

The technical collaboration took place in Beijing and Hangzhou from June 7 to 17, with a focus on developing new capacities to enhance production and improve the quality of life for rural workers.

The participants received training on Chinese trends and practices in digital agriculture aimed at poverty reduction. They deepened their understanding of implementing plans that promote technology for planting and monitoring agricultural production.

At the conclusion of the seminar, Claudio Caamaño Vélez, on behalf of the participants, expressed gratitude to the People’s Republic of China for the valuable knowledge acquired. He pledged to utilize this knowledge for the benefit of the Dominican people.

Caamaño Vélez stated, “The food crisis poses a significant threat to humanity, given the democratic and ethical challenges posed by climate change. Therefore, this knowledge holds strategic importance.”

He highlighted that the collaboration represented a significant step in strengthening the institutional strategies of the National Irrigation Technification and expressed confidence that the exchange would mark the beginning of a strong and lasting cooperative and friendly relationship.

Caamaño Vélez also extended gratitude to the Dominican ambassador in China, Briunny Garabito, who conveyed words of appreciation on behalf of the Dominican Republic. The ambassador also discussed the opportunities and challenges in the context of the relationship with China, the world’s second-largest economy.
