Tropical Storm Cindy strengthens toward Lesser Antilles

Santo Domingo.- Tropical Storm Cindy strengthened slightly as it moved west/northwest over the Atlantic, the National Meteorological Office reported today.

According to the Onamet bulletin, Cindy was located at latitude 14.9 north and longitude 51.4 west, about 1050 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles.

Cindy is moving toward the west/northeast at about 24 kilometers per hour and is expected to continue at this speed during the next few days. In the trajectory forecast, the phenomenon is expected to remain far to the east of the Lesser Antilles without affecting the Caribbean.

Maximum sustained winds increased to about 95 km/h, with higher gusts.

The Onamet indicated that few changes in its intensity are expected in the next 24 hours, while it could begin to weaken starting tomorrow.

Storm-force winds extend about 95 kilometers out from its center.

The indirect effects of Tropical Storm BRET are generating scattered showers and thundershowers since the early hours of the day over the provinces: La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Samaná, Sánchez Ramírez, María Trinidad Sánchez, among others.

These rains will continue in the morning and afternoon hours and are expected to increase and move towards other provinces such as La Vega, Duarte, Monseñor Nouel, Santiago, Elías Piña, Dajabón, San Juan, Valverde, Santiago Rodríguez, San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal, Peravia, San José de Ocoa, Azua, Barahona, and Pedernales.

In the evening hours, other showers and thundershowers could also be observed, which will be concentrated in the southern coastal towns of the country.
