Warrants issued for Dominican Republic Police officers in German’s death

Santo Domingo.- A Puerto Plata province court on Tuesday issued arrest warrants for three National Police officers in connection with the alleged theft of RD$60 million (US$1.5 million) during a raid at Sosúa last October when a German citizen was shot dead.

The Permanent Instruction Court issued bench warrants for colonels Raymundo de la Rosa and Roberto Santos, and Lt Odennis Francisco Felix, who were part of the raid in the gated community, La Mulata III, which left one German national dead and several agents hurt.

In a statement, Justice minister Francisco Domínguez said he communicated the warrants to National Police chief Manuel Castro, but it wasn’t immediately if any arrest had taken place.

Nonetheless Police spokesman Jacobo Mateo affirmed that it’s up to the Puerto Plata Office of the Prosecutor to provide information at this stage of the investigation.

The Justice Ministry accuses the officers of breaking-and-entering into a residence where German national Peter Ebert Demetrick was shot several times and died, and injured Haitian national Rigaud Petit Frere.

They are also suspected of the alleged theft of two safes with RD$60 million, various types of weapons and other belongings.
