Expected downpours prompt flash flood alerts for east region

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) on Wednesday issued flash flood alerts for the National District and eight provinces in the eastern part of the country, from a low pressure system expected to dump heavy rains starting Thursday.

The COE issued the alerts for the provinces Monte Plata, Duarte (especially the Lower Yuna river basin), La Romana, San Pedro, La Altagracia, El Seibo, San Juan and Santo Domingo.

It recommends staying away from rivers and streams for possible flash flooding and landslides.
