Dominican Republic holiday deaths fall to 15

Santo Domingo.- The year end break claimed the lives of15 people, all in traffic accidents, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) announcedyesterday.

It said its operation "Dominican Christmas of culture,values and safety" tallied 157 hurt, including 142 people in incidents, 11by alcohol, and two for food poisoning.

The report says as of 2pm Monday the30th until6am yesterday; 97 traffic accidents were reported, of which 59 involved people onmotorcycles, including 8 deaths.

It said 5 deaths were in 29 car accidents, seven intrucks and buses and two people were run over.

COE director Juan Manuel Méndez stressed that despite thetragedies, there were fewer compared with the previous period’s total of 246 hurtand 22 deaths.
