New judge to hear challenge by famous inmate

Santo Domingo.- The San Cristóbal province Appellate Court yesterday assigned a new judge to hear the challenge filed by Sobeida Felix, requesting that her defense lawyer be allowed to visit her.

The Penal Chamber judges tapped Rosa Mateo to temporarily fill the vacancy in that jurisdiction’s Sentencing Court and hear the motion filed by Felix, through her lawyer Felix Portes.

The court ruled for a challenge filed by San Cristóbal Court of Appeals prosecutor Jesus Fernandez Vélez against judge Willys de Jesus Núñez, noting that the magistrate had voiced an opinion of a lower court’s ruling, adding that at no time has Núñez been prevented from visiting Felix, the paramour of the Puerto Rican murder convict and alleged drug kingpin Jose Figueroa Agosto.
