Controversy resurfaces on regulation of Haitians in DR

Santo Domingo.– A great controversy has generated the statements made by the Presidency chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo on the government banning the deportations of Haitians.

Such a statement has been confusing because it is a measure that had previously been announced in the decree establishing the "National Foreigner Regulation Plan."

Montalvo referred yesterday to an old decree to say thatDominican authorities have banned the repatriation of Haitians who live on thisside of the island, but many believed it was a story of the moment.

Decree 327-13, issued November 29, last year, is the one whichprohibits, in its article 37, the deportations. The Decree was announced andreported in the media at that time.
