Dominican Republic Lawyers Guild to defend ex President

Santo Domingo.-Dominican Republic’s Lawyers Guild (CARD) on Wednesday said it’ll assume formerpresident Leonel Fernandez’s legal defense on charges filed last week in connectionwith alleged bribes in the US$93.0 million scandal on Brazilian-made airplanes.

Diego JoséGarcía called the Justice First Foundation lawsuit over the deal for the SuperTucanos illegal, reckless and arbitrary, a meaningless aberration without legalbase.

Accompaniedby Guild leaders Pedro Duarte Canaan, Ramon Pina Acevedo, Carlos Balcácer,among others, Garcia said the Foundation’s complaint against Fernández filedSeptember 25 are only allegations of government corruption.
