Authorities work to purge crooked cops, military

Santo Domingo.- Early in October National District prosecutor Alejandro Moscoso sent the heads of the Armed Forces Joaquin V. Feliz and the Police Jose A. Polanco a list with 176 officers and enlistees on active duty who’ve been formally charged with a variety of crimes nationwide from 2008 to 2011.

The list has the names and ranks of the 176 charged with murders, tortures, robberies and abuses, and the military and Police ranks range as high a generals, said a source quoted by newspaper Listin Diario.

In fact Moscoso said the Dominican justice system supports “the initiatives aimed at purging the military and police institutions to contribute so the anti-socials don’t dishonor them by shielding themselves under their shelter, to guarantee the peaceful climate which our society deserves and yearns for as well.”

CARDINAL WANTS PURGE TO CONTINUE

Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez on Friday called for a continuing purge of the Armed Forces and National Police, “if we want a secure Dominican society which can reach some accomplishment in the war against crime.”
