Dominican population in Queens, NYC plunges 14%, Census

NEW YORK.- The Dominican population in Queens County has plunged 14% while the number of Ecuadorians, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans and Colombians grows by similar figures.

The declining figure could also lower possibilities of Dominican politicians to attain elected posts in the county’s local and state administrations.

2010 Census statistics show a considerable upswing in the numbers of, Chinese and especially Philippinos, with a 25% among their population.

Queens’ current population of 2.2 million makes it one of the biggest among the nation’s counties, followed by Los Angeles, Chicago and next door Brooklyn (New York).
