Santo Domingo.- National Police chief Manuel Castro and Port Security (CESEP) director Felix Alburquerque on Thursday “reached an agreement” to put and an end to the standoff over freight service at Caucedo Multimodal Port, which has been blocked by the country’s biggest truckers union Fenatrado.
The sale of the tickets to enter the Port has led to the conflict between Fenatrado dn the Boca Chica Truckers Union.
Fenatrado president Blas Peralta said the agreement calls for selling the port’s entry vouchers at a neutral site for now, but warned that it doesn’t mean that the shutdowns are over, "because there are still some problems which I hope will be fixed in due time."
Alburqueque said the facility will be militarized starting Friday to guarantee freedom of movement at Caucedo.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Fenatrado truck drivers again shut down cargo movement at Boca Chica Port, whose workers have also been blocked from entering.
Fenatrado and the bus owners associations Conatra and FENATRANO are known as the “country’s owners” for their frequent and often violent strikes with impunity.
