Deadly jailbreak attempt: Seven arrests, assault rifle seized

Santo Domingo.- National Police chief Manuel Castro revealed Wed. that investigators identified the place where the attackers rented the Hyundai SUV used in the assault on Najayo prison, and it occupants who were observed outside the prison grounds.

He said the SUV was rented in a company located 22 kilometers north on the Duarte Highway, in the sector La Guayiga.

He said seven people are being held for questioning in connection with the attempted jailbreak which killed four inmates and two prison guards.

In a press conference at the Justice Ministry, Castro said the arrests were made in various sectors of Santo Domingo East and West, adding that an M-16 assault rifle and other military equipment was seized in the raids.
