Revenue stokes Boston Consulate row

NEW YORK.- Ruling PLD party leaders in Boston who requested anonymity said the Dominican General Consulate’s situation in that city deteriorated, since both the recently designated consul Miguel Angel Andújar and Eduardo Selman, a senior leader and ex consul in New York, seek the entity’s control.

Quoted by news source elnuevodiari.com.do, they said when Andújar replaced the current consul Dominico Cabral, he was told the U.S. State Department’s prior accreditation was required to assume the post, describing the measure as Selman’s “conspiracy,” aimed at taking indirect control of Boston’s Consulat through his assistant Ramona Abreu, said to be among those which collect the most revenue abroad.

But those who support Selman note that Andujar is a naturalized citizen of the U.S., and as such cannot assume a Dominican Government post until Washington grants a waiver.
