Drive-by shootings target two elected officials

Santo Domingo.- Unidentified gunmen fired on the offices of Duarte Province (central) senator Amilcar Romero in the city San Francisco de Macorix, with no injuries reported, the National Police said Friday morning.

It’s the second drive-by shooting targeting elected officials in less than 24 hours, after unidentified gunmen fired eight bullets at the vehicle driven by of TV personality Betty Geronimo, wife of Santo Domingo North mayor Francisco Fernandez. No injuries were reported.

In San Francisco, the Police said gunmen in a pickup truck committed the drive-by shooting of Romero’s offices, hit by more than 50 bullets Thursday night with weapons of various calibers and torched a Daihatsu truck loaded with rice that was parked in front of the office.

The Website Francomacorisanos.com said the shooters arrived last night and the offices located in the city’s downtown, where Police investigators arrived at the scene afterwards.
