Santo Domingo.- Foreign minister Andrés Navarro on Monday rejected claims that there are stateless in the country and on the contrary said president Danilo Medina has a strong commitment to the respect of human rights.
Navarro said there cannot be talk of eradicating statelessness country as some organizations have demanded, "because that’s not the situation here. It’s non-existent, and an unwavering will to respect human rights continues."
The official spoke to reporters after the start of a 3-day seminar for diplomats and consuls on Latin America’s future, by the Latin American Studies Center, based in Extremadura, Spain.
Navarro said the government continues studying the different scenarios that have emerged regarding the ruling handed down by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights against the Dominican Republic, "and an extensive consultation process has been taking place in this Ministry this week just concluded to issue a response as a country."
