UN Gender Equality office opens soon

Santo Domingo.- The UN Entity for Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (UN Women) will soon open an office in the Dominican Republic, including its Global Training Center.

Upon making the announcement, Foreign minister Carlos Morales said the office stems from to an UN-Dominican Government agreement to promote gender equality in the country.

Among the UN Women’s main objectives figure the elimination of discrimination against women and girls, the empowerment of women, and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Morales called the installation of UN office a step forward for the Dominican Republic, since in his view will help in the fight for women’s rights and against inequality.

"We’re confident that the opening of this office will help strengthen the work of governmental agencies working for women’s rights, since UN Women can be performed in conjunction with Dominican Republic’s Government, programming activities aimed at empowering women and achieving gender equality," he said.
