Presidency fires Vice Minister charged with beating wife, children

Santo Domingo.- The Executive Branch yesterday fired Industry and Commerce vice minister Jose Acevedo Trinidad, after he was charged with beating and threatening to kill his wife, Arianny Lara.

Lara, married to Acevedo for14 years, filed charges accusing the official battering her and their two children during four years, the alleged victim said in the TV program of the journalist Alicia Ortega

She said Acevedo’s insults, beatings and abuse against her and their children began in 2007 and despite filing charges with physical and psychological evidence in the Justice Ministry more than nine months ago, no action was taken against the alleged aggressor.

The case was reportedly sent to the Supreme Court given Acevedo’s post as Vice minister. He’s also an ex Deputy of the ruling PLD party.
