Dominican Republic economy gets a US$1.07B yearend boost

Santo Domingo.- The double wage, Christmas bonus, or 13th salary mean one thing; private sector and government workers will get around RD$20.0 billion in December, which added to the equal amount they normally earn, a total of more than RD$40.0 billion (US$1.07 billion) will be circulating in the country this month.

Only the central government will disburse more than RD$8.0 billion for the 13th salary.

National Treasurer Guaroa Guzman on Thursday said the Central Government started paying this year’s extra salary yesterday to civilian workers, police and members of the military, including pensioners.

Speaking in a Treasury Ministry press conference, Guzman said the pensioners were the first to receive that payment, disbursed yesterday morning, adding that the payments were also made in other areas of the Government.
