Former Drug czar’s wife accuses him of beatings

Santo Domingo.- A restraining order was submitted today in a National District court against former National Drugs Control Agency president Ivan Peña Castillo, by his wife Thelcemary Georgina Mejía, on charges of gender and domestic violence.

Fifth Instruction Court judge Ileana Perez accepted the request through Instruction courts coordinating judge Rosalba Garib, to hear the complaint by Gender Violence Prevention Unit prosecutor Roxanna Campusano.

It was learned that the judge will rule tomorrow on the complaint and set a hearing for next week, because the former official was released by the Justice Ministry.

The National District Office of the Prosecutor will also ask the court for additional protection for the alleged victim, who in her 14 years of marriage with Peña, procreated three children, ages 12, 9 and 7.
