Police arrest ex Cincinnati Reds star pitcher Jose Rijo

Santo Domingo.- Police investigators arrested former Cincinnati Reds star pitcher Jose Rijo in the Dominican Republic city of San Cristobal (south) Monday night, just hours after Justice Ministry Anti-laundering Unit director German Miranda vowed to do so before Christmas Eve, news source elnuevodiario.com.do reports..

The apprehension of Rijo comes after he failed to appear for questioning on subpoena three times, which prompted a National District court to declare him in contempt.

The 1990 World Series Most Valuable Player is the target of a probe in connection with the fugitive Matías Avelino Castro, wanted for the murder of the journalist Jose Silvestre, in eastern La Romana several months ago, after naming several people of the narcotics underworld in his magazine ‘Voz de la Verdad’ (Voice of Truth).
