One of ex president’s closest friends goes before the Supreme Court today

Santo Domingo.- Supreme Court justice Victor Jose Castellanos will rule today on the challenge filed by the Dominican Anti-Corruption Alliance (Adocco) against the Justice Ministry’s decision to drop all charges in the case against Senator Felix Bautista, accused of embezzling taxpayers money.

The case is followed closely nationwide, because Bautista is considered one of former president Leonel Fernandez’s closest collaborators.

The defense lawyers for the senator from San Juan de la Maguana province, the prosecutors, and Adocco coordinator Julio Cesar de la Rosa must appear in the hearing set for 9am.

The Justice Ministry’s Anti Corruption Department director Hotoniel Bonilla had shelved the case against Bautista on 13 August, after Adocco filed charges of illicit enrichment on May 9, noting that the lawmaker’s income doesn’t justify his wealth.
