Bicycle lanes coming to Dominican capital

Santo Domingo.- Santo Domingo mayor Roberto Salcedo and a group of National District City Council experts on Monday toured the Los Heroes Av. adjacent to the National Botanical Garden, to analyze an area for possible bike lanes.

Urban Infrastructure director Abel Noboa said the bike route project can be implemented in various areas of the capital, which aims to improve the quality of people’s lives through exercise, cut fuel costs and protect the environment.

Salcedo said that during his trip to Argentina in October, the Buenos Aires city authorities offered the National District technical cooperation to establish bike routes in the city of Santo Domingo, after marked success in several Latin American cities such as Bogotá, Sao Paulo, Santiago and Mexico City.
