Santiago.- Santiago woke Tuesday to vigils with lights and posters placed in various areas of the city to demand justice against corrupt officials, and mark International Day Against Corruption.
The campaign messages call for an end to impunity as part of the initiative One Day Against Impunity and Corruption, coordinated by the Masada Foundation.
Dozens of people started gathering from 6:30am at Estrella Sadhalá, Juan Pablo Duarte and Colon avenues, three of the city’s busiest arteries, where many motorists heeded acall to turn on their vehicle’s headlights.
"I steal your future, wake up, turn on the light," read one of the messages of young people with lanterns for light switching and black shirts in mourning.
A similar protest is planned in Santo Domingo’s La Lira Park starting 6pm Tuesday by the civil society and political organizations Movimiento Comunitario, Participación Ciudadana, Santiago Somos Todos, RAP, La Multitud, Foro Ciudadano, Foro Social Alternativo, Alianza País, APD, Patria Para Todos, CaminaRD, Por la República, Red Nacional de Acción Juvenil, among others.
