One of the slain NYC police was a Dominican Republic native

New York.– Rafael Ramos, one ofthe two New York City policemen gunned down Saturday afternoon on a street inBrooklyn, is Dominican, some of his uniformed colleagues confirmed to Dominicanoutlet elnuevodiario.com.do.

The officer, 40, worked at theNYPD 84th Precinct, was shot in the head twice, next to Wen JianLiu, 32, who took one shot to his head. Ramos had joined the NYPD justthree years ago, after working as school crossing guard.

In a press conference Saturday nightMayor Bill de Blasio and NYPD Commissioner William Bratton (Bill) identifiedRamos as one of the officers in the cold-blooded murders perpetrated byIsmaaiyl Brisnley, allegedly a member of the violent gang "the GuerrillaFamily" in Baltimore, and who police say had threatened to kill policeofficers a few days ago to avenge the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

Ramos had just turned 40 andleaves a family including his wife and their 13-year-old, who “couldn’tunderstand what had happened to her father," said New York City mayor Billde Blasio.

It’s likely that Liu and Ramos havenever saw the attacker as they sat in their patrol car, Bratton said, addingthat Brinsley shot himself in front of several people on the platform of the Gtrain subway line in Brooklyn.
